TODAYS UNIT
===========
Today we add examples to the OTHER VERSE MODULE which studies
how certain Rashis are derived -- not thru internal analysis--
but rather thru comparison with other verses.

We show there 5 methods by which Rashi uses cross references

THE TEMPLE MATERIALS

EXAMPLES: Ex25-06a Ex25-06b Ex25-06c

BACKGROUND
----------
Ex25-03:07 lists the 16 items given in voluntary donation
for the building of temple.

THE TEXT
--------
For example people donated [GOLD, SILVER...WOOD etc]

THE RASHI
---------
For several items brought, Rashi CROSS REFERENCES other verses
to show HOW they were used. For example, there was a REQUIRED
TAX of silver half dollars (Nu30-11:16) which was used to make
the SILVER SOCKETS and SILVER CLASPS (Ex37-27:28). Rashi explains
that the other silver--brought by VOLUNTARY DONATION--was used to
make SILVER UTENSILS (e.g. See Nu07-01).

THE LIST
--------
Here is the LIST of items and cross references. Rashi is using
here the METHOD OF OTHER VERSES.
Ex25 MATERIALS DONATED FOR TEMPLE HOW USED VERSE*1
Ex25-03 Gold Golden altar Ex30-01
Ex25-03 Silver *2 Temple Utensils Nu07-01
Ex25-03 Copper Copper altar Ex27-01
Ex25-04 died wools & flax Priest Garments Ex28-06
Ex25-04 Woven Goat hair*3 Temple Tent Ex26-07
Ex25-05 Ram skins Tent covering Ex26-14
Ex25-05 Tachach skins Tent covering Ex26-14

Ex25-06 Oil for the candellabrah *2 Candellabrah Ex27-20
Ex25-06 Perfumes for annointing oil *2 Annointing oil Ex30-22
Ex25-06 Perfumes for incense *2 Incense Ex30-34
COMMENTS
*1 The verses in this column BEGIN the paragraph describing the
temple item using the material column 2. The actual verse
explicitly mentioning this item may occur later in the
   paragraph.

*2 These cross references are EXPLICITLY mentioned in the Rashis
   at Ex25-03a Ex25-06a Ex25-06b Ex25-06c Ex25-07a Ex25-07b
   Ex25-07c.

*3 The verse says
   -------------------------------------
Blue, Purple, Crimson, flax and Goats
   -------------------------------------

Rashi (Ex25-04d Ex26-07a) citing the Aramaic
   translation says that
   ------------------------------------------------------------
GOATS does not refer to GOAT SKIN but WOVEN GOAT HAIR FABRIC
   ------------------------------------------------------------

Rashi derived this from an OTHER VERSE, Ex35-26 which
   explicitly states
    --------------------------------------------------------
Ex35-25 every SMART woman wove with her hands...the wool...
Ex35-26 every ESPECIALLY SMART woman wove the GOATS
    --------------------------------------------------------

The repeated verse as well as the alignment shows that
    two separate skills were involved
    - the ordinary skill of weaving wool
    - the special skill of weaving Goats hair (Ex25-26a)
The alignment seems to suggest that weaving of Goat hair
was done off the live goat (because Goat hair was thicker
than wool and flax and it was easier to weave them this way)
