OVERVIEW:
========
In this module we explore Rashis that derive their
lesson from OTHER VERSES.

There are three basic techniques of Rashi in these
verses.

One basic technique of Rashi in these verses is to
>CONFIRM BIBLICAL CROSS REFERENCE<. Thus the Bible
might say >I GOD PROMISE YOU X AS I HAVE SAID< and
Rashi will then indicate where God has said this.

A Second basic technique of Rashi in these verses is to
>CLARIFY MEANING IN ONE VERSE BY AN OTHER VERSE<.

A third technique is where the Bible explicitly says
>DO PROCEDURE X THE SAME WAY I TOLD YOU TO DO PROCEDURE Y<

TODAYS UNIT
===========
In todays unit we give some examples of the 3rd technique.
That is we present examples of how the Bible gives legal
details by cross referencing similar procedures.

#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*# (C) Dr Hendel, 2000 *#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*
EXAMPLE 12: Lv04-26a
==========

BACKGROUND
----------
Lv04-22:26 discusses the male, goat, sin offering of a king.After
discussing the sin offering procedures the paragraph concludes
with a discussion of which animal fats are offered on the altar

THE RASHI
---------
Lv04-26 >And all its fat shall be offered up LIKE THE FAT OF
         THE PEACE OFFERING<

The capped words >LIKE THE FAT OF THE PEACE OFFERING< refers to
Lv03-12:17 where the goat peace offering is discussed. That
paragraph lists which animal fats are offered on the altar for
the goat peace offering, and this same list of animal fats is
offered for the goat sin offering of the king.

EXAMPLE 13: Lv04-31a
==========

BACKGROUND
----------
Lv04-27:31 discusses the female, goat, sin offering of an
individual who sins. The paragraph concludes with Lv04-31
which describes which animal fats are offered on the altar

THE RASHI
---------
Lv04-31 >And all its fat shall be removed THE SAME WAY
        THAT THE FAT WAS REMOVED IN THE PEACE OFFERING
        and the priest shall offer them on the altar<

The capped words >THE SAME WAY THAT THE FAT WAS REMOVED
IN THE PEACE OFFERING< refers to Lv03-12:17 where the
goat peace offering is discussed. That paragraph lists
which animal fats are offered on the altar for
the goat peace offering and this same list of animal fats is
offered for the female goat sin offering of the individual

EXAMPLE 14: Lv04-35a
==========

BACKGROUND
----------
Lv04-32:35 discusses the female, lamb, sin offering of an
individual who sins. The paragraph concludes with Lv04-35
which describes which animal fats are offered on the altar

THE RASHI
---------
Lv04-35 >And all its fat shall be removed THE SAME WAY
        THAT THE FAT WAS REMOVED IN THE PEACE OFFERING
        and the priest shall offer them on the altar<

The capped words >THE SAME WAY THAT THE FAT WAS REMOVED
IN THE PEACE OFFERING< refers to Lv03-06:11 where the
lamb peace offering is discussed. That paragraph lists
which animal fats are offered on the altar for
the lamb peace offering and this same list of animal fats is
offered for the female lamb sin offering of the individual

NOTE
====
Note how Rashi implicitly corresponds the list of animal fats
in the >GOAT< sin offerings to the list of fats in the >GOAT<
peace offerings; similarly Rashi corresponds the list of
animal fats in the >LAMB< sin offerings to the list of fats in
the >LAMB< peace offerings. This is logical and intuitive. As
an example of the consequences of this correspondence note
that the lamb peace offering has one extra fat component that
the goat peace offering does not have (and consequently the
female lamb sin offering will have one extra fat component
that the male goat sin offeirng does not have)
