OVERVIEW:
========
In this module we explore Rashis that derive their
lesson from OTHER VERSES.
There are three basic techniques of Rashi in these
verses.
CROSS REFERENCES THAT CONFIRM
=============================
One basic technique of Rashi in these verses is to
>CONFIRM BIBLICAL CROSS REFERENCE<. Thus the Bible
might say >I GOD PROMISE YOU X AS I HAVE SAID< and
Rashi will then indicate where God has said this.
CROSS REFERENCES THAT CLARIFY
=============================
A Second basic technique of Rashi in these verses is to
>CLARIFY MEANING IN ONE VERSE BY AN OTHER VERSE<.
CROSS REFERENCES THAT DEFINE
============================
A third technique is where the Bible explicitly says
>DO PROCEDURE X THE SAME WAY I TOLD YOU TO DO PROCEDURE Y<
REFERENCES

TODAYS UNIT
===========
In todays unit we give some examples of the first technique.
In the first example God promised something and later the
Bible says >such and such happened AS GOD SAID<. In the
other two examples the cross references are used, not to
confirm a >STATEMENT< but rather to confirm a >NICE
RELATIONSHIP<. Read further for the details.

EXAMPLE 18: Gn21-01c
==========
Gn21-01 says >And God remembered Sarah AS HE SPOKE
And God did to Sarah AS HE CITED<
The capped words >AS HE SPOKE< and >AS HE CITED< refer to
Gn17-19 where God first promised to Sarah a son
Gn17-19 says >And God said But Sarah your wife will give
give birth to a son and you will call his
name Isaac and I will fulfill my convenant
with him ...<
EXAMPLE 19: Gn21-22a
==========
Gn21-22 says >At that time Avimelech and Pichol, his
chief of staff, said to Abraham as follows:
GOD IS WITH YOU IN ALL THAT YOU DO<
RASHI
-----
The capped words >GOD IS WITH YOU IN ALL THAT YOU DO< refers to
--Abrahams wife gave birth when he was a 100 years old(Gn21-05)
--Abraham conquered the 4 kings in a war (Gn14-15)
--Abrahams nephew was saved when Sedom was destroyed(Gn19-21)
NOTE:
----
Notice how example 18 is a confirmation of a >STATEMENT< (God
said Sarah would give birth and she did) while Example 19 is
a confirmation of a >RELATIONSHIP< (ie There are many examples
where God did Abraham favors).
EXAMPLE 20: Gn21-23b
==========
Gn21-23 says >And now swear to me (Avimelech) that you(Abraham)
will not lie to me, my heir, or my grandchild;
as WE HAVE TREATED YOU WITH KINDNESS so should
you treat us with kindness<
RASHI
=====
The capped words >AS WE HAVE TREATED YOU WITH KINDNESS< refers
to Gn20-15 where Avimelech treated Abraham with kindness
Gn20-15 says >And Avimelech said (To Abraham): My land is before
you: Please dwell where you want<
