Subject: Re: Bat Mitzvahs

Danmin@aol.com asks, in Torah Forum, Volume 4 Number 76, for advice on how
to make a Bat Mitzvah.

My niece was bat mitzvahed in Elizabeth about 2 years ago. On the one hand
my brother-in-law did not want to make a semi religious cerimony in an area
where it was not traditional. On the other hand, he did not want to deprive
his daughter of something everyone else was getting.

So he decided to make a Siyyum (he used Kethuboth). At the Bath Mitzvah we
all assembled first in the Bais Medrash and he made the siyum. Then the
Rabbis and girls each made appropriate Dvar Torahs. We then retired to the
main dining room for the meal. In this way the meal was a Seudas Mitzvah
(I, the niece's uncle, participated by giving some Dvar Torah's on Ketuvoth).

Hope this helps.
