VERSE: Nu12-09a
God punished the following people
MIRIAM for speaking slander against Moses
The SNAKE for getting Adam and Eve to sin
ADAM and EVEN for sinning by eating the forbidden fruit
----------------------------------------------------------
>GOD SPOKE TO THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE BEFORE PUNISHING THEM
----------------------------------------------------------
Nu12-09 "Please(Miryam) listen to Me(God)---Moses is a great
prophet why did you speak against him"
Gn03-09 "Where are you(Adam)...have you eaten from the tree
I(God) forbade you"
Gn03-13 "What have you (Eve) done?"
--------------------------------------------------------------
>GOD DID NOT SPEAK TO THE snake BEFORE PUNISHING HIM
--------------------------------------------------------------
Gn03-14 "And God said since you(Snake) have done this..you are
cursed from all animals"
CONCLUSION: We learn Moral and Ethical lessons from this
episode One should always speak to someone before judging
them EVEN if it is clear that they are wrong. The one exception
--that is the one time when you don't have to speak to someone
before punishing them---is when the sin consists of getting
other people to sin (Since the seducer-to-sin would simply
shrug his shoulders and say 'Why did they listen to me?'-
therefore we don't give him an opportunity to repent)
