CHAPTER 18
==========
Today we translate chapter 18 which
according to the outline contains
- ROUND 2
- DIALOG 2 '
- Bildads 2nd attempt to answer Job.

A summary of dialogs till now is as follows
--------------------------------------------------------
ELIPHAZ: Suffering comes to teach & improve
JOB: SUFFERING improves;but PAIN prevents improvement

BILDAD: Suffering comes from sin;Success from observance
JOB: But national tragedies affect righteous/wicked alike

TZORFAR: Suffering comes to encourage more Learning
JOB: Mans life is too short; he cant learn that much more

ELIPHAZ(ROUND 1): Suffering comes to teach and improve
ELIPHAZ(ROUND 2): Suffering/happiness is INNER not OUTER
JOB (Round 1): SUFFERING improves;but PAIN prevents improvement
JOB (Round 2): UNJUST PAIN prevents learning; I-m unjustly
tortured

BILDAD(ROUND 1): Suffering comes from sin; Success from observance
BILDAD(ROUND 2): Success/Failure comes from presence/absence of
dreams
--------------------------------------------------------

Here is the MAIN sentence for this round
----------------------------------------------------------
BILDAD(ROUND 1): Suffering comes from sin; Success from observance
BILDAD(ROUND 2): Success/Failure comes from presence/absence of
dreams
----------------------------------------------------------

BILDADs basic position is unchanged(Suffereing comes from sin
while success comes from observance). But Bildad explains that
Success comes from dreams and/or prophecies while suffering
and failure come from lack of dreams and/or prophecies.

Here is a simple way to understand Bibdads thesis: Every
person has projects in life and these projects can naturally
be destroyed by the various calamities that happen daily. A
person who has dreams (not necessarily prophetic ones) can
be warned of impending disasters and avoid them while the
wicked who cannot have dreams (or who do not listen to them)
must fail.

We now apply our 3 fold
approach(TOPIC,SUBTOPICS, WORDS)
to Chapter 18(See posting 1 for
an explanation of this approach)

Here are the 4 sections of this chapter.

------------------------------------------------------
MAIN:(ROUND 2): Success/Failure comes from presence/absence of dreams
------------------------------------------------------
Job18-02:04 Do your temper tamptrums,Job,change reality
Job18-05:11 Without the light of dreams projects collapse
Job18-12:19 Calamities will come and destroy him
Job18-20:21 The above is the lot of the wicked
------------------------------------------------------

On a technical point, the reader can of
course recognize chapter subsections by content.
However the reader can also recognize chapter
subsections by KEYWORDS which introduce these
subsections. The sections of this chapter begin
with the Hebrew Keywords
- HOW LONG (AD)
- FURTHERMORE (GAM)
- THIS WILL HAPPEN(YEHI)
- CONCERNING (AL)

Let us now review the 4 individual sections

--------------------SECTION 1-------------------------
MAIN:(ROUND 2): Success/Failure comes from presence/absence of dreams
------------------------------------------------------
Job18-02:04 Do your temper tamptrums,Job,change reality
------------------------------------------------------
Job18-02 How long, [Job],will you make our words despicable
Job18-02 -------- Why dont you try to understand us;then we can
respond
Job18-03 Why do you treat us like animals
Job18-03 --- do you call us impure to our face
Job18-04 You, who tear your soul in anger
Job18-04 Because of you will the world be deserted
Job18-04 -------------- will God depart from His Omnipresence
------------------------------------------------------

-------------------SECTION 2--------------------------
MAIN:(ROUND 2): Success/Failure comes from presence/absence of dreams
------------------------------------------------------
Job18-05:11 Without the light of dreams projects collapse
------------------------------------------------------
Job18-05 Furthermore: the dream-lights of wicked will be pulverized
Job18-05 ------------ no luster to the sparks of their intuition
Job18-06 ------------ his tent-plans will darken
Job18-06 ------------ their after-hour candles will be pulverized
Job18-07 ------------ His possessive footsteps will shorten
Job18-07 ------------ his advice will be thrown away
Job18-08 ------------ his footsteps wind up in traps
Job18-08 ------------ his business chats lead to entanglements
Job18-09 ------------ his what-if analysis leads to traps
Job18-09 ------------ he is overwhelmed with contrition
Job18-10 ------------ Trap-ropes are hidden for him in the ground
Job18-10 ------------ Snares ---------- on the sideroads
Job18-11 ------------ (In summary)
Job18-11 ------------ He is surrounded by frightening confusions
Job18-11 ------------ They are spread before his feet
------------------------------------------------------

NOTE TO JOB18-09
----------------
The actual Hebrew word AKayv means HEAL (His heals are
gripped by traps). By contrast the Hebrew root AyKev
refers to WHAT-IF analysis (Planning) (His what-ifs lead
to traps). The astute reader will note that we translated
the verse as AyKev(WHATIF) even though the actual Hebrew word
is AKayv(Heal). Isnt this an improper procedure?

The simple answer is that puns and overtones are intrinsic
to poetry. In other words although it says AKAYV(Heal)
nevertheless there is poetic intent of overtones---The verse
has an intrinsic double meaning
-- His HEALS will be gripped by traps
-- His WHAT-IFS will be gripped by traps

------------------SECTION 3---------------------------
MAIN:(ROUND 2): Success/Failure comes from presence/absence of dreams
------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------
Job18-12 His virility will be impoverished
Job18-12 his side-men will be misty
Job18-13 His major-bones will be consumed
Job18-13 his ----- bones will be consumed by death
Job18-14 His security(wife!) will be uprooted from his tent
Job18-14 ------------------- will be escorted to the king of confusion
Job18-15 She will be in his tent but not belong to him
Job18-15 (as if) his pleasant-place was sprayed with tar
Job18-16 UNDERNEATH-his roots(parents) will dry up
Job18-16 ABOVE-his long boughs(children) will be cut
Job18-17 His memory will be erased from his land
Job18-17 and he will have no name outside

-------------------------------------------------------------
