This website is devoted to explaining all 7700 Rashis
on Chumash. We are explaining the Rashis by classifying
them each into one of 30 rules.

EXAMPLE: Ex26-31a REFERENCE-meaning
-----------------------------------
Ex26-31a states
---------------------------------
Make a PAROCETH as follows
---------------------------------
Ex26-33 clarifies this
---------------------------------
The PAROCETH will be a divider
for you between the Holy of Holies
and Holies
---------------------------------
Hence the Rashi comment
------------------------------
The PAROCETH is a symbolic border
cloth that divides between the
Kings room and the nation
------------------------------
In passing: PAROCETH only occurs
about 2 dozen times in the Bible;
Ex26-33 clarifies its meaning and
purpose.
EXAMPLE: Ex25-30a MEANING-FigureOfSpeech(FFF)
----------------------------------------
Ex25-30a states
---------------------------------
And you shall place on the
table FACE BREAD before me
eternally
---------------------------------
Rashi clarifies
---------------------------------
A flat loaf was taken and bent
over on each side so it looks
as follows
--------

__ __
The bending allowed the load to
rest on the table. The bending
also allow airation preventing
hardening during the week long
stay outside.
Since the bent bread has the
silouette/form of a face therefore
it is called FACE BREAD
---------------------------------
EXAMPLE: Ex26-04c MEANING-FigureOfSpeech(FFF)
---------------------------------------------
Ex26-04c states
---------------------------------------
And thou shalt make loops of blue upon
the edge of the one curtain that is ON THE EDGE
in the first set; and likewise shalt thou
make in the edge of the curtain that is
ON THE EDGE in the second set.
---------------------------------------
Rashi clarifies the meaning of ON THE EDGE
------------------------------------------
The ON-THE-EDGE curtain is the CORNER,
OUTERMOST curtain since the EDGE of the EDGE
is the CORNER
------------------------------------------
Here the CORNER is named by FORM (EDGE)
EXAMPLE: Ex13-16a GRAMMAR-conjugation(4Letter)
----------------------------------------------
Ex13-16a mentions the obligation
to wear Tefillin. Tefillin is called
ToTaFoTH (@@PT) TET-TET-PAY-TAUV by
the Bible.
It is routine procedure to interpret
4 letter roots as the sum of the meaning
of the two two letter roots from which
the 4 letter root is composed.
Now
- The root Tet Tet means MIRE/GRAVEL
- The root Pay Tauv means BREAD LOAF
Thus Tefillin would be named as the
MIRED-LOAF. Let us try and understand
this name.
- It is called LOAF for two reasons
- Physically the TEFILLIN look like a
small loaf
- The TEFILLIN must be written on
Kosher parchment --as Rav Hirsch
says -- they must be edible FOOD FOR
THOUGHT -- so the TEFILLIN are our
daily SPIRITUAL BREAD
- It is called MIRED because TEFILLIN must
be black
- The BLACKNESS/MIRE symbolizes that the
tefillin contains OLD-WELLKNOWN (USED)
principles...we shouldn't be anxious to
get something new but suffice with what
we have
Some comments are in order
1) Rashi explains TT-PT by using foreign
languages where TT and PT means 2+2=4
referring to the 4 Parshiyoth in the
Tefillin. My own opinion is that Rashi's
comment is ADDITIVE and SUPPLEMENTAL to
the traditional explanation of 4 letter
roots in terms of two letter roots (That
is Rashi did not intend to deny the traditional
approach).
2) This Rashi was rather exciting for me
since the blackness of tefillin is considered
to PERSONALY SINAITIC--that is, a tradition
handed to Moses on Sinai for which we have
no basis in the Torah. But as I have clearly
shown the TRADITIONAL STANDARD ETYMOLOGY
of 4 letter roots leads to the obvious conclusion
that TEFILLIN must be BLACK. So we have a clear
derivation.
EXAMPLE: Ex15-02b MEANING-connectives(This)
-------------------------------------------
Ex15-02b states
-------------------------------------------
HaShem is my strength and song,
and He is become my salvation;
THIS is my G-d, and I will glorify Him;
my father's G-d, and I will exalt Him.
-------------------------------------------
Rashi explains the capped word THIS
-------------------------------------
THIS in the Bible always refers
to a POINTING TO A PRESENT OBJECT
In this case the Jews POINTED to the
visions of God they personally saw on
the sea For the Jews on the sea saw
visions similar to those of Ezekiel 1
