BACKGROUND
----------
The Torah warns the Jews settling Israel against their defecting
and forgetting the Torah

THE TEXT
--------
The Torah uses a very strange narrative Conversational style:

When you EAT WELL beware lest you rebel and forget God
-------------------------------------------------------------

THE RASHI
---------
Rashi cites a MIDRASH RABBAH: The Midrash Rabbah reviews all
verses where Rebellion against God is metioned. Like a Modern
university professor the Midrash discovers that in many of
these verses EATING WELL IS MENTIONED PRIOR TO REBELLION.Hence
the modern like statistical inference

SAIETY and EATING WELL INCREASE THE POTENTIAL TO FORGET
AND/OR REBEL AGAINST GOD

*1 This last example was stated by the Rav, Rabbi Soloveitchick
   The Rav suggested that the first 2 chapters PROVIDE background
   for chapter 3. The first 2 chapters describe the PARTYING that
   the PERSIANS had. By contrast the 3rd chapter describes how
   ACHASHVEYROSH consented to destroy the Jewish Community. The
   Rav concluded

   Notice how the above LIST enriches our understanding of
   this observation of the Rav.

BACKGROUND
----------
The Torah in Dt11 warns us against defection.

THE TEXT
--------
The text is developmental. It doesnt just say DONT DEFECT
But rather, it builds up its case: If you EAT WELL, you
may DEFECT, DEPART from the TORAH, and WORSHIP IDOLS!!?!

THE RASHI
---------
Rashi explains that the Torah uses here the prinicple of
DEVELOPMENTAL CLIMAX: According to this principle the Torah
will sometimes outline the STAGES by which something
happens. This is very useful to those who deal with
OUTREACH since each STAGE is itemized. Other examples
of climax may be found in the references*1

   exposed to other TEMPATATIONS: When exposed to other

   other RELIGIONS.

SUMMARY
-------
Rashi here makes a comment on GRAMMAR.

It is well known that a word like TCHON has the FORM of the
INFINITIVE.

Rashi introduces the idea that the INFINITIVE FORM can mean
---EITHER the abstract STATE of an activity OR
---BEING INVOLVED IN DOING THE ACTIVITY CONTINUOUSLY

In English we signify these two meanings as follows
---e.g. TO RUN is healthy (TO RUN is the Infinitive)
---e.g. RUNNING, SWIMMING, WRITING (that is the ING ending
signifies AN ONGOING INVOLVMENT IN AN ACTIVITY)

BACKGROUND
----------
It is well known that the Jews conquered Israel and divided
the territory. But the Levites did not participate in this
conquest and received only 48 fixed cities. Furthermore while
the Jews could work agriculture, the Levites, did not have
land and lived off Tithes and temple sacrifices

THE TEXT
--------
There are 3 Biblical texts that outline the above laws
governing Levites.

THE RASHI
---------
Rashi simply confirms the Levite laws mentioned here with
Levite Laws mentioned elsewhere. We call this the TECHNIQUE
OF OTHER VERSES. Each of the 3 chapters has a slightly
different emphasis and hence the sum of all 3 chapters
enriches the overall meaning

*1 It emerges that Rashi interwove the texts of Nu18,Dt10
   and Dt18 to give a richer understanding of the text

   More specifically Rashi introduced the mediating variable
   of TIME: Here is the sequence of Logic

   ---the Levites serve God in the temple (Nu18-explicit)
   ---Hence they must spend much time on temple matters (Logic)
   ---Hence they dont have time to till the land (Logic)
   ---Hence I God give them tithes as recompense(Nu18-explicit)
   ---Thus the Levites eat directly from God (Dt18-explicit)
