GOALS
=====
This module studies Rashis treatment of classical grammar.
In other words how did Rashi treat the rules you find in
modern LEARN-HEBREW textbooks

TODAYS UNIT
===========
In todays unit we review some technical matters:
- the distinction between THE BAKER vs HE WHO BAKES
- the fact that some words are DUAL GENDERED

A SPELLING ANOMALY

EXAMPLE 134: Gn49-11e You can add terminal yuds to verbs

BACKGROUND
----------
The rules for spelling verbs and nouns are fixed.

THE RULE
--------
Rashi lays down a rule that you can a YUD to a verbs end
without changing the meaning of the verb. These YUDS
function as decorative appendages.

THE LIST
--------
We present a LIST below of verbs/words which have extra YUDS
added to their end; their meanings dont change
NUMBER BIBLICAL TEXT REMOVAL OF YUD VERSE

RARE CONJUGATIONS

EXAMPLE 135: Ex21-29b Hoo-Ad is Passive-Past-3rd Person-Masculine

BACKGROUND
----------
There are many popular books on Hebrew. In Hebrew all verbs
have 3 letter roots. These roots are in turn CONJUGATED to
indicate such things as PERSON, PLURALITY, GENDER, TIME etc

EXAMPLES
--------
For example S-M-R is a root that means WATCH. But then
- SHMARTI means I WATCHED
- SHMARTA means YOU WATCHED
- ESHMOR means I WILL WATCH

REFERENCES
----------
There are popular books on the Hebrew conjugations. One
such book is for example >201 ways to Conjugate Hebrew verbs<
Another popular reference is the index to the Ibn-Shoshan
Hebrew dictionary. I have also benefitted from Al Silbermans
Grammatical form Konkordance which lists all grammatical
conjugations by form.

TABLE 6
-------
If one looks up in Ibn-Shoshan dictionary in the 6th Table
of verb conjugations (Those whose 2nd letter is >VUV<) then
one easily sees that the
- PASSIVE-CAUSATIVE TENSE (Someone did this to someone else),
- 3rd Person,
- Past,
- Male
is conjugated as
>Hey+VUV(Kubutz)+X+Z<
where the X and Z are the 1st and 3rd letters of the root.
Thus
>Ayin-Vuv-Dalet<
is conjugated as
>Hey-Vuv-Ayin-Dalet<

RASHI COMMENTS ON RARE FORMS
----------------------------
Rashi commented on this form because it is rare and confusing.
The list below shows that this particular conjugation only
occurs 4 times in the Bible. This root is also confusing
since as the footnotes show *1, the root can mean WARN
as well as WITNESS. In summary Rashi commented on it both
because of its rarity and confusing meaning.

ROOT VERSE PASSIVE-CAUSATIVE MEANING
Yud-Caph-Cheth Job33-19 And he was rebuked (by someone else)
Yud-Resh-Dalet Nu10-17 And it was taken down(by someone else)
Caph-Vuv-Nun Isa16-05 And it will be founded(by grace)
Ayin-Vuv-Dalet Ex21-29 And he was warned (by someone else)
COMMENTS
*1 This list shows that the root Ayin-Vav-Dalet can mean
   WARN as well as WITNESS
 ---------------------------------------------------------------
 VERSE MEANING
 ----- -------------------------------------------------------
Gn43-03 The person WARNED us not to come without Benjamin*1
 Jer6-10 Who can I WARN
Dt04-26 I have WARNED you with punishment from heaven/earth*2
Is55-04 I have made him a WARNING to the nations
Ex21-29 And they will WARN him (about his OX)
