GOALS
=====
This module studies Rashis treatment of classical grammar.
In other words how did Rashi treat the rules you find in
modern LEARN-HEBREW textbooks

TODAYS UNIT
===========
In todays unit we switch gears. Prior to this unit we have
been focusing on the grammatical conjugation of verbs. We
now move on to other grammatical areas. Today we continue
yesterdays unit by reviewing examples where a rearrangement
of a sentence makes it sound better.

Todays unit comes from the following postings

REARRANGEMENT OF Gn02-19b

EXAMPLE 64: Gn02-19b Rearranged verses can sound better

THE TEXT
--------
And ANYTHING that man named---ANIMALS--that became its name

THE REARRANGEMENT
-----------------
And ANY ANIMAL that man named; that became its name

THE POINT
-------------
Both sentences read the same. However the rearranged version
explains the OPPOSITION of the capped words ANIMAL and
ANYTHING, thus making the sentence clearer.

THE RASHI
---------
OPPOSITION --- breaking up parts of sentence into two
places is a common technique in all literature. Rashi
can make such a sentence clearer by putting the sentence
parts back together

THE LIST
--------
The list below shows the ORIGINAL & REARRANGED verse.
The capped words indicate where the rearrangement takes
place
ORIGINAL VERSE REARRANGED VERSE
And ANYTHING And ANY
REARRANGEMENT OF Gn14-15a

EXAMPLE 65: Gn14-15a Rearranged verses can sound better

THE TEXT
--------
And HE split up aginst them at night -- HE & HIS SERVANTS

THE REARRANGEMENT
-----------------
And HE & HIS SERVANTS split up against them at night

THE POINT
-------------
Both sentences read the same. However the rearranged version
explains the OPPOSITION of the capped words
thus making the sentence clearer.

EXAMPLE 66: Gn41-57a Rearranged verses can sound better

THE TEXT

And the whole region came TO EGYPT to purchase -- TO JOSEPH

THE REARRANGED TEXT
-------------------
And the whole region came TO EGYPT, TO JOSEPH, to purchase

THE POINT

COMMENTS
*1 Alternatively Rashi points out that the EFFECT of the
opposition can also be obtained by replacing the phrase
TO JOSEPH with FROM JOSEPH (The whole region came to
Egypt to purchase FROM Joseph). Both remedies ---
the rearrangement and the retranslation of TO to FROM --
focus on the confusion from the oppposition which can
   be removed by a rearrangement

*2 Note the commas --- these commans set off an OPPOSITIONAL
   phrase
