is understood. In previous modules we have explained the 3
meanings of ALSO
THEME/METHOD 1: ALSO can mean AN EXTRA RECIPIENT

EXAMPLE: (Gn20-5a) Sarah ALSO said she was Abrahams sister
RASHI: Sarah, and her maids ALSO, said Abraham was a brother
THEME 2: ALSO can means a DERIVED or RELATED PRODUCT

EXAMPLE:

Dt23-19c Bringing a prostitutes payment to God is ALSO disgusting
RASHI: eg If she was payed with wheat then
>bringing WHEAT to the temple is disgusting
>bringing FLOUR from that wheat is ALSO disgusting
THEME 3: ALSO refers to a similar ANALOGOUS RELATIONSHIP

EXAMPLE:

Ex07-23 says that at the plague of blood, that
>Pharoh hardened his heart(didn't listen)
>and didn't pay attention ALSO TO THIS
But at the 'stick turning into a snake' Ex07-13 only says
>Pharoh hardened his heart(didn't listen)
Hence we have the
>RASHI:(Ex07-23a)
>Pharoh didn't pay attention to the plague of BLOOD
>Pharoh ALSO didn't pay attention to the 'stick to snake'

EXAMPLE 21: Gn44-10

Gn44-10 (When Joseph's brothers returned from Egypt
and Joseph's goblet was searched for in Binyamin's
sack(planted their unbeknown by Joseph) the brothers
protested saying
>'If you find the goblet let that
> >a) person die and
> >b) we will become slaves'
Joseph's searcher then said
>'ALSO as you have spoken now (that
> >a) he should die and
> >b) you all should be slaves
>is true But I will be forgiving)
> a) the stealer of the goblet will (only) be a slave
> b) the rest of you will be free

Rashi's point is that Joseph's searcher forgave BOTH
>the other brothers (by not making them slaves) and
>ALSO Binyamin (by making him a slave and not killing him)
He forgave BOTH---hence the word ALSO!
EXAMPLE 22: Gn30-03b

> Rachel said to Jacob)

Rashi explains that the word ALSO refers to a similar relationship
>Sarah built a house from Abraham and Hagar
>Rachel wanted to build a house from Jacob and Bilhah
EXAMPLE 23: Gn27-44d

The text is discussing how Jacob came to Isaac, disguised as
Esauv in order to obtain Esauv's blessing.
>Gn27-44d And Isaac said (when Esauv came with a meal for
> Isaacs blessing)
> Who is this (referring to Jacob)
> who just came with food ...and I blessed him and
> he ALSO IS BLESSED
>
>RASHI:
>
>He(Jacob) just received YOUR(Esauv) blessing
>He ALSO receives HIS blessing
>(For I had intended to bless BOTH of you with
>blessings for each son.)
Thus this Rashi indicates that the word ALSO refers to a similar
ACTIVITY of BLESSING which would have gone to Jacob anyway.
