In this series we will review all Rashis on
        >FULL &
        >DEFICIENT SPELLINGS

EXAMPLE A1
---------
We can illustrate the meaning of these terms using simple English
examples. The word
        >SLEEP
can be spelled
        >SLEP (deficiently spelled without the extra e)
        >SLEEP (fully spelled with all e's)

EXAMPLE B1
----------
Similarly the word
        >KITE
can be spelled
        >KIT (Deficiently--it is missing (deficient) 1 letter e)
or
        >KITE (Fully with the E)

EXAMPLE A2
----------
Rashi had 2 rules to deal with these DEFICIENT and FULL spellings.
We can illustrate one rule with the word
        >SLEEP
When spelled deficiently it looks like
        >SLEP
Thus if a verse said
        >He tried to get some SLEP
the proper midrashic response would be
        >He tried to get a good night SLEP
but
        >did not succeed.
        >Since the word SLEP is spelled deficiently
        >we learn that the sleep itself was deficient.

RULE
-----
In other words one method of interpreting deficient spelling is
to
        >say that the object or process was deficient
In other words we transfer the
        >deficiency in the spelled word (SLEP without an E)
to a
        >deficiency in the activity or object involved

EXAMPLE 1: Gn25-24b
=========
EXAMPLE 2: Gn38-27b
==========

>Gn25-24b And she had TW NS in her womb
>Gn38-27b And she had TWINS in her womb

>RASHI
        >Gn25-24b has TW NS spelled DEFICIENTLY in the Hebrew
        >In fact this verse speaks about the birth of ESAUV & JACOB
        >Since ESAUV was wicked the verse spells the word TW NS
        >deficiently to show that the TWINSHIP was deficient (they
        >weren't 2 equals)

        >By contrast Gn38-27b speaks about 2 subtribes of Judah
        >Both these people were Righteous
        >Hence the spelling of TWINS is FULL

In summary

        VERSE TWINS PEOPLE INVOLVED COMMENT
        =====   =====       ===============     =======
Gn25-24 TW NS Jacob, Esauv Esauv was DEFICIENT
