VERSE: Ex40-35a:

RULE: There are 5 methods by which 2 contradictory or 2
complimentary Biblical verses may be resolved (A Rule
of Rabbi Ishamel)

EXAMPLES:
--------
(1) THE 2 VERSES MAY INDICATE TWO ASPECTS OF THE SAME THING

eg one verse says "MOSES sent delegates to Edom" while another
verse says "ISRAEL sent delegates to Edom".(Clearly MOSES
represents ISRAEL).

(2) THE 2 VERSES MAY INDICATE 2 PARTS OF THE SAME PROCESS

eg One verse says "Levite service (training) starts at 25"
Another verse says "Levite (actual) service starts at 30"
So we assume that the training took 5 years.

(3) THE 2 VERSES MAY INDICATE 2 MEANINGS OF THE SAME WORD

eg One verse says "non jewish slaves will work forever"
Another verse says "non Jewish slaves will work till Jubilee"
So we infer that the word "FOREVER" means "A LONG TIME"

(4) THE 2 VERSES MAY INDICATE 2 MODALITIES (REQUIRED, PERMISSABLE)

eg One verse says "Don't hurt workers so that they DO NOT CALL TO
GOD" while another verse says "Dont withold loans lest HE DOES
CALL TO GOD" We infer that anguished workers and loaners have
the RIGHT but not the OBLIGATION to pray against employers who
mistreat them (ie it is optional for them to pray).

(5) THE 2 VERSES MAY INDICATE 2 NAMES OF THE SAME OBJECT

eg A Birthstool can be called the "ROCKS" because birthstools
were usually made of STONE. Another verse calls birthstools
The BREAKTHRU since it is the place that infants BREAK
THRU and are born.

of two complementary verses that seem to say different
things. This summarizes the results in 4 digests. The
five reasons for why there are 2 verses are given in
the 3rd column. The two verses can indicate two
                >Aspects= 2 aspects of the same thing
                >Stages = 2 stages of the same process
                >Meaning=restrictive vs broad interpretation
                >Names=two different etymologies
                >Modalities=MAY--MUST--MUST NOT}
