VERY BRIEF SUMMARY

One of Rashis 6 main tasks is to explain GRAMMAR the
same way Hebrew Grammar books do.  In this posting
Rashi explains the difference between the PASSIVE
and PARTICIPLE.

The PARTICIPLE is used to denote an INTRINSIC
attribute while the PASSIVE is used to denote a
MAN MADE attribute. Here are some examples

*1 I think the verse, REDDENED SHIELDS refers to
   the fact that these warriors were so great
   that their shields looked dyed red from
   all the bloodshed

*2 So counting conscriptions for the army was
   done by tribal birth (Every tribe contributed
   so many soldiers). These were NATURAL
   appointments. By contrast 2K12-12 talks about
   professional appointments to the temple
