      9. RASHI METHOD: NonVerse
BRIEF EXPLANATION: The common denominator of the 3 submethods of the NonVerse method is that inferences are made from non textual material. The 3 submethods are as follows:
      • Spreadsheet: Rashi makes inferences of a numerical nature that can be summarized in a traditional spreadsheet
      • Geometric: Rashi clarifies a Biblical text using descriptions of geometric diagrams
      • Fill-ins: Rashi supplies either real-world background material or indicates real-world inferences from a verse. The emphasis here is on the real-world, non-textual nature of the material.
This examples applies to Rashis Gn14-09a

Brief Summary: The alliance of 4 defeated the alliance of 5. Abraham pursued the alliance of 4 (Who were obviously mighty) to save his nephew.

Chapter Gn14 discussing various wars, captives and rescues states
    • The alliance of 4 declared war on the alliance of 5 (Gn14-09a)
    • The alliance of 4 won and took Abraham's nephew, Lot, as hostage
    • Abraham declared war on the alliance of 4 and saved his nephew
Rashi fills in why the composition of the various alliances is important: If the alliance of 4 defeated the alliance of 5 then they were obviously powerful. Yet we see that despite their power Abraham was willing to pursue these powerful people to redeem his captured nephew Lot. Thus the composition of the alliances sheds light on Abraham's bravery.
