OVERVIEW:

This module deals with Rashis which comment on verses with
>REPEATED WORDS<. The basic technique for >REPEATED WORDS<
was succinctly formulated by the MALBIM

When a word is >REPEATED< unnecessarily then the
sentence with that word refers to >NON-STANDARD NUANCES<
The examples will illustrate how this is implemented

BACKGROUND
----------
The Bible is speaking about the Passover lamb
THE VERSE
---------
Ex12-09 says that it is prohibited >to COOK COOK it in water<
THE RASHI
---------
If it had only said >Dont COOK it in water< I would say that
that only COOKING IN WATER is prohibited but eg COOKING in
WINE is permissable. By saying >Dont COOK COOK in water< we
infer that even non standard cookings are prohibited, whether
it be cooking in water or cooking in any other liquid
COMMENT
-------
Notice that a similar method was used on the verse
>HIT HIT the city by sword<. The repeated word >HIT<
indicates that one should hit the city even by other means
such as fire if one does not have a sword.
EXAMPLE 12: Gn45-04a

BACKGROUND
----------
The Bible is speaking about the reuniting of Joseph and
his brothers.
THE VERSE
---------
Gn45-03:04
----------------------------------------------------
And Joseph said to his >BROTHERS< I am Joseph..
but his >BROTHERS< could not answer him because of shock
and Joseph said to his >BROTHERS< come near
----------------------------------------------------
THE RASHI
---------
The continuously repeated word >BROTHERS< broadens the
word >BROTHERS< to non-standard nuances: Joseph was not
only their >PHYSICAL< brother but was also their >SPIRITUAL<
brother.
COMMENT
-------
Rashi, as is his usual custom phrases this PHYSICAL-SPIRITUAL
comment in punchy language. Rashi states >Joseph showed his
brothers that he is circumcised!<.
But we need not be so graphic. It is highly unlikely Joseph
undressed. It is more likely that he started speaking about
all the spiritual laws he kept; the only way he could know
about all these spiritual laws is thru really being Joseph
