In Bais Medrash Volume 2 Number 3 Mrs Judith Adams asks:
< < I would like to give my class in Tehilim a project to research. I want
them to prepare the prokim of tehilim that we say during shacharis after
ashrei. Could you give me some resources that I could pass along to them
that would be easily accessible and interesting to work on? > >
I would HIGHLY recommend the Hirsch Psalms. The reason for this is that in
addition to writing a commentary Rav Hirsch also TRANSLATED the Psalms. The
trouble with many commentaries is that after lucidly explaining each verse
the student is STILL at a loss to translate the whole Psalm and see it as a
coherent WHOLE. For this reason I would recommend Rav Hirsch since he also
translates. (If his book is not available it would be worthwhile to
purchase 1-3 copies for the school and photocopy the appropriate pages for
your class).
