This module studies the ALIGNMENT method in Rashi. In this
method 2 different verses are found to be ALMOST the same.
The verses are lined up and the minor differences between
them function as footnotes illuminating the text.


TODAYS UNIT

In todays unit we align 5 verses referring to the same place
The name of the place undergoes a slight change in one of
these 5 places. Are there 2 pronunciations or 2 places. It
turns out that this is a controversy between the Minchat
Shai and Rashi.

   This suggests that there is only one RamSayth

   As can be seen, however, from the above list, there are
   two pronounciations: RA-AM-Sayth(Ex01-11) vs RA-Me-Sayth





PROOF THAT MANY BIBLICAL PEOPLE HAVE 2 NAMES
 

Biblical Figures can have 2 different names:
As the footnotes show the new names can correspond to
important events and changes in the persons life
This list is actually compiled by the Sifrah/Sifray
on Ex18-01

We use this list to show that there was only one
Raamsayth but it had two names. The details are
presented in footnote *4

  Rashi would answer the Minchat Shai as follows:
  --It is normal as shown in the table above for a place

    or change happens

  --Originally, RAAMSAYTH was simply Pasture land for the Jews

  --However Pharoh REMADE the cities from Shepard cities into
    FORTIFIED CITIES(Ex01-11). On this occasion the cities were
    renamed: They were no longer called Ra-Me-Sayth but instead
    were called Ra-Am-Sayth.

  --As shown in the first list in this module the idea that these
    two pronounciations refer to the same place is consistent with
    the fact that RAAMSAYTH is identified with the
    ENTRY POINT, DURATION, and DEPARTURE POINT of the Jews in
    Egypt.
