SUCCINCT SUMMARY
----------------
Rashi frequently comments by making broad database queries
and noting patterns.

EXAMPLE
-------
Each OFFERING had many component procedures. For example the
animal had to be SLAUGHTERED; its blood had to be GATHERED;
it had to be OFFERED on the altar fire. As the verses list
these COMPONENT PROCEDURES sometimes they just use the word
HE (e.g. HE WILL SLAUGHTER IT) and sometimes they use
the word PRIEST (e.g. THE PRIEST RECEIVES THE BLOOD). We can
study these SUBJECT distributions to find out for which acts
the PRIESTS are required.

We find that PRIESTS are required for dealing with
- receipt and throwing of blood in OFFERINGS
- the FISTFUL in the Minchah offering
But NON PRIESTS can do acts like
- slaughtering

This inference -- justified by a database query on
sentence SUBJECTS is further justified by an explict
OTHER VERSE -- Nu18-07 -- which explicitly states
that only priests are involved in ALTAR RELATED
PROCEDURES.

COMMENTS
*1 The interpretation of this list should be clear
The 4 columns represent 4 offerings. Each column
lists the procedures of that offering. A (P) is placed
on the procedures where a verse REQUIRES Priests.

For example if you read Lv01-01:09 you find a
description of the UP offering. The verses speak about
BRINGING ANIMALS, LEANING ON THEM, SLAUGHTERING THEM
etc The Biblical text continues THE PRIESTS BRING THE
BLOOD. Thus we infer that prior to bringing the blood
PRIESTS need not do the act.

*2 The word PRIEST as SUBJECT is only mentioned EXPLICITLY here.
Hence we infer that Priests are REQUIRED for the BLOOD
procedures but the previous procedures such as SLAUGHTERING
can be done by a non priest.*10

LONGER FOOTNOTES

*10 The Sifrah brings further supportive proof for the
REQUIREMENT of priest performance from an OTHER VERSE

----------------------------------------------------------
Nu18-07 And you (Aaron) and your sons (Priests)
Must Guard your priesthood(only priests can do it)
- on all ALTAR commandments
- on matters inside the Paroceth(Holy of HOlies)
And (only) you will do these services
----------------------------------------------------------

Thus the objects -- blood and minchah fistfuls -- brought
to the altar must be received and carried by Priests.

These two derivations -- OTHER VERSES and DATABASE INQUIRY
ON EXPLICIT SUBJECTS -- complement each other. Indeed
although the SUBJECT priest is not mentioned prior to the
BLOOD procedures nevertheless there is ERRATIC mention of
it afterwards. Hence the OTHER VERSE supports the
thesis.
