*1 Rashi translates N-S-A as PORTIONS. But this of course
means that he GAVE them PORTIONS.(The meaning of N-S-A
in the rest of the Bible is always GIFT not PORTION--
Hence we interpret Rashi as indicating WHAT the gift was
The verse then translates perfectly normally--
-- and he gave them gifts---Benyamins gift was 5 fold)

*2 In this verse the VERB form (TO GIVE) is used.
In the other verses we use a noun form (MSAYTH)
