VERY BRIEF SUMMARY ------------------ Rashi frequently used Database methods. Sometimes Rashi comments on Rarity. Examining a list of comparable cases Rashi explains why only one or two of them have certain oddities. EXAMPLE ------- Lv09-02a mentions that the CONSECRATION SIN OFFERING OF AARON THE HIGH PRIEST was a CALF. However, examining the sin offerings of other important individuals--Kings, High Priests, Nations-- shows that the traditional animals used are GOATS and OX. Thus the usage of a CALF is an oddity. Rashi explains this oddity by cross referencing Ex32-35: Aaron had made a GOLDEN CALF--hence he had to offer a CALF to atone for his sin. | ||

We list the SIN OFFERINGS in the Bible. Note that the SIN OFFERINGS of important people - High Priests - Kings - The Nation invariably come from OX and GOATS. The CALF is an ODDITY in this list. Rashi explains the oddity - Ex32-35 mentions the GOLDEN CALF that AARON had made which caused punishment in the nation--hence Aaron needed to atone for this deed by bringing a CALF SIN OFFERING. | ||||
