RASHIS COVERED: Gn45-05a Lv13-10a Lv13-24a
Gn45-05a

SUCCINCT SUMMARY:
-----------------
One of Rashis 5 main goals is to explain meaning the same way
the dictionary explains meaning. We call this the Rashi rule
of WORD MEANINGS. Rashi could simply infer meaning from a list
of verses which use this root. We call this the RASHI SUBRULE
of WORD MEANINGS. Perhaps it should more appropriately be called
the Rashi subrule of INFERENCE FROM VERSES. Note that this
Rashi subrule corresponds to the Rabbi Ishmael exegetical rule
of INFERRING BASED ON GENERALIZATION FROM SEVERAL TEXTS

EXAMPLE: Mem-Cheth-Yud-Hey means SURVIVOR
-----------------------------------------
This Hebrew word, meaning SURVIVOR, is used in 3 ways
Here are examples

---------------------------------------------------------------
Ju06-05 They encamped and destroyed with no SURVIVORS
Gn46-05a God sent me for SURVIVORSHIP--i.e. to help you SURVIVE
Lv13-10a SURVIVOR flesh has formed in the wound--i.e. a SCAB
---------------------------------------------------------------

Rashi on these texts simply explains the meaning of the word
which we have indicated with CAPS.

LIST802M below gives several verses illustrating these usages

Lv13-24a the SURVIVOR flesh of the burn is pinkish or white
COMMENTS
*1 Mem-Cheth-Yud-Hey is used in three senses
- SURVIVOR
- SURVIVORSHIP--help people survive
- SCABS*10

*2 Rashi on this verse also mentions some logical inferences
from this verse
---------------------------------------------------
EITHER white hair OR SURVIVOR-flesh (scabs)
are signs of ritual impurity in Leprous wounds.

Furthermore even though SCABS are only mentioned in
CLOUD WHITE wounds, they apply to all color wounds
---------------------------------------------------

We will deal with this aspect at a later date.

LONGER FOOTNOTES

*10 There are 3 stages of skin after wound formation
- the SCAB
- the tender-skin stage
- complete recovery

SURVIVOR-flesh here refers to the TENDER-SKIN stage.
Hence the name SURVIVOR-FLESH (SCAB is not flesh)

In passing the term SURVIVOR refers to the form:
- SURVIVOR legally refers to WOUND TISSUE surrounding
- HEALTHY FLESH. The HEALTHY flesh looks like a SURVIVOR
- amidst the wound tissue.
